It's just a tiny bit marvellous

Olympia Le Tan: My New Lust Have

I always said when I had enough disposable income, I would get myself a Chanel bag. Now, the bookworm in me has spoken, and I will be getting one of these instead- even if it means not eating for a month!

Designer Olympia Le Tan designs the most amazing bags based on covers of classic books! Michelle Williams took The Catcher in the Rye with her to the Independent Spirit Awards and totally stole the show!

At nearly £1500 each, I have a feeling I won’t be the owner of one of these beauties for a long time. Hopefully, by the time I can afford one, Olympia will have designed a To Kill A Mockingbird/ The Hobbit inspired bag! 🙂

Weekend Round Up: Levis, Flamingos, Oscars and Saying Goodbye

I know Levis have been getting a lot of stick this week about their new ad campaign; titled ‘Hotness Comes In All Shapes and Sizes,’ it shows 3 equally skinny women with slightly curvier behinds promoting their curve ID jeans.

I know I should probably be really annoyed by it (as many people are) but I went into my nearest Levi store yesterday to buy a new pair of jeans- as every other clothes shop had let me and my massive thighs down so spectacularly -and it was amazing! The sales assistants were lovely, helping me to discover that I am actually a size 29 waist (equal to a size 11- so no wonder I was having issues elsewhere!) and a medium rear. Splendid! It did hit my bank account hard- £80 eeep!- but they are worth it, and hopefully they’ll last me at least until 2013.

This weekend I also had a request to do someone’s nails for them- something I was quite nervous about, because mine usually take so long to do, and I make so many mistakes! Here’s the results- a little messy, sorry!- I hope you like them!! They are very summery ( a tad premature here in dreary England) but I love them!

I also spent the night in Leeds yesterday to say goodbye to one of my best friends who’s leaving for India today. Very, very sad to be seeing him go, even though I know he’ll have an amazing time!

Because I’m working tomorrow, I won’t be staying up to watch the Oscars. I’m really sad about it, as I’ve managed to watch every other major award show this year, and now I’m missing the biggest one!!! I will try and watch the red carpet show on E! before bed and post a few of my favourite looks. I hope Michelle Williams, Jessica Chastain and Rooney Mara wear something amazing!

I won’t say 100% that ‘The Artist’ will walk away with pretty much everything, but I have a feeling they will! I’d like Williams to win Best Actress, but it’s going to be Davies or Streep.

The BAFTA and Grammy awards: a summary

To recap the winners before I get distracted by beautiful frocks….’The Artist’ swept the board last night at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, stealing Best Picture, Leading Actor and Best Director from their biggest rivals, ‘The Descendants.’ I was so glad that they won, as it is an incredible film. Big cheers for Octavia Spencer, who won Supporting Actress and ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’, who took home Outstanding British Film too!

Across the Atlantic, the mood was sombre, as the awards was overshadowed by the news of Whitney Houston’s death. There were tributes galore, both to her, Amy Winehouse and Etta James. The runaway success of the night was Adele- I loved her speech at the end of the night!

Okay, now on to the important stuff….

The Baftas

The Good

The Bad

The Ugly (dress!)

In no way am I saying that Christina Hendricks is ugly by the way! The usually stunning actress wore a shapeless bin bag on the red carpet, and for some unknown reason didn’t brush her hair! Penelope Cruz was a bit better; the colour of her dress is lovely, but it does look like she has a clipboard down her cleavage. Ms. Williams did look quite plain, but she always looks chic, and her dress is from HnM!!!

The Grammys

The Good

The Bad

The Ugly

Kelly Rowland and Carrie Underwood lead the way at the awards that showed so many beautiful dresses in shimmering tones. Special mention should also go to Taylor Swift and Kelly Osbourne, who wore my favourite dress of the whole night! The colour and cut of  Fergie’s dress was nice, but why on earth did she wear black underwear in a see through lace dress?!

I think Ms. Minaj is trying to pull a Gaga. Why else would she turn up dressed as some sort of Catholic Barbie doll?!

And finally, I just couldn’t resist how dapper Jean Dujardin looked last night! C’est magnifique!

Golden Globe Round Up

I’ll admit, I didn’t make it to the end of the Golden Globes last night- it got to 3.30am and I was falling asleep so I made my way to bed pretty certain I wasn’t going to miss anything too drastic. George Clooney and the Descendants obviously won the night, as did The Artist (so happy about that because it is an amazing film!) There wasn’t even that many upsets on the red carpet either, which is both good and bad; good for them, bad for me. There are only so many times you can feel envious of a dress without hoping that the next one to appear will look like a bin bag.

So, my predictions from last night were pretty much all wrong…as I predicted!! On the most part I’m glad I was wrong though, because I chose the people I thought would win as opposed to who I wanted to win. The biggest let down for me was Tilda Swinton being robbed by Meryl Streep for Best Actress. But never mind! On the plus side, Downton Abbey scooped Best Mini Series, which is amazing!

On to the dresses…

Zooey Deschanel

Berenice Bejo

Kate Beckinsale

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Charlize Theron

Rooney Mara

Salma Hayek

Lea Michelle

Emma Stone

Michelle Williams

None of the pictures above are mine, obviously! If you want to see some more, as these are only a few of the wonderful dresses, WireImage have the best selection.

I haven’t included Angelina Jolie in my list because I was really underwhelmed with her outfit; okay, she looked pretty stunning, but compared with last year, it was pretty boring. There were so many other stars looking better than her but because she’s Angelina Jolie she got a lot of hype, while others went unnoticed.

Emma Stone was my personal favourite in a raspberry Lanvin gown with eagle belt detail. She looked edgy but classy at the same time. Lea Michelle went daring in Marchesa, and Charlize Theron looked stunning in Dior. I wasn’t a fan of Rooney Mara’s look; it seemed a bit boring, and her hair looked grim. But everywhere else, people are raving about her, so what do I know!!

I had an amazing time watching last night- though I’ve probably missed a dress that was equally as stunning as the one’s I’ve chosen!

Let me know if you think I have!
